Tuesday Snow?

The smoke signals are a little hard to read, but it appears that snow, potentially significant, is on the way for Tuesday.

  1. The NWS since last night has posted for Plymouth 1-3, 3-5 and now 4-6 inches for tomorrow. However, there appears to be a fair amount of uncertainty as to where the heaviest snow band will set up. I noticed the TV mets are expressing that same uncertainty. However, a couple of hours ago Channel 4 (Riley) showed the predictions of several (7?) different models, which all reflected between 5-6 inches for Minneapolis, except one outlier (GFS) predicted 2.3 inches for Minneapolis.

  2. Not even a winter weather advisory! People will be caught off guard tomorrow.

  3. I hope the GFS is wrong! 5-7 would be sweet!

  4. Well, we have our winter weather advisory, now, for the metro. Novak posted his map of snow predictions over 6 hours ago on Facebook..... he's got south/east metro in a 5-7" swath and north/west metro in a 3-5" swath. Like he says, it is 'not a blockbuster storm' but hey, bring it and whatever we can get, right? Dance, PWL!

  5. Gosh another one that snuck up - when I checked Friday it seemed there was no chance this was going to amount to anything. Thanks again Bill for continuing to keep an eye on the site.

    Hoping for an over-achiever tomorrow!

I am doing the Overachiever Dance! It is a unique dance and I think it is working. Some of the short-term models are showing a nice 6+ inch swath. I am dancing!! Bring it!!

  10. Novak tweaked his snow totals 7 hours ago; now the metro is in a pretty solid 5-7" swath, though he mentions the 'sharp gradient' feature again. I've been up since 3 watching a small eye of 'dry slot' over the metro and waiting for it to fill in. Here's to a snowy day. Be careful on the roads, everyone.

  11. Amazing to wake up to the the pink swath of winter storm warnings directly across the heart of the metro.

National Weather Service gives the Twin Cities the highest probability of a 6+ inch snowfall in Minnesota, putting the odds at 63%. The graphic they released at 5:03am shows the metro right in the bullseye.

  12. Love this! But, as WeatherGeek mentioned, when I looked at the radar around 6:00am, we totally had the donut hole (no precip) right over the metro area...happens almost every time. But, now at 7:00am, it's starting to snow. Bring it!

  13. Yes, Big Snow Fan. It's 'finally' pouring snow in St Louis Park. And NWS has upped metro totals to 6-10". We won't break the 1991 record of 12.6 inches (well, maybe it is possible if they keep upping the totals)... but 6-10 inches is one heck of a decent storm. Again, be safe everyone. PWL must be dancing their head off! :+)

  14. It is now coming down at a decent clip in southeast Minneapolis after starting pretty thin from 7-8.

  16. Love it @ Plymouth Weather Lover! Still only light snow here in 55126 and can still see the grass poking through

  17. Looks like the axis of heavy snowfall is setting up over the metro. That doesn't happen very often. Enjoy!

    1. Yes, it was awesome. NWS just posted on twitter that MSP got 8.4 inches. Nice! Chanhassen: 5.3. I'm looking forward to the CoCoRaHS totals from the weather observers around the metro as they post in the morning. Happy Dance, PWL.

    2. And when I say "MSP" I'm meaning the airport, where they shut down runways for two hours today! Now, that's some heavy snow for a spell.
